FOR WEB GALLERY: Children across Haiti lost parents in the earthquake and are now being raised by single parents, distant relatives or family friends. Many were also orphaned. Meica Saradjine Luzaire’s mother was buried alive in the middle school she taught in. The four-year-old’s father spent seven hours digging her out alive, only to see her die in the back seat of his car as he drove frantically around the city trying to find a doctor. In her family home in Croix des Bouquets she flicks through the pages of a photo album showing snaps of her family in happier days, when her mother was still alive.
